A Day in the Life

Overall Assignment Description:


Support the objectives of the FM Business Solutions Office (FMZ) to find creative solutions for the improved collection, organization, storage, management, retrieval, and use of financial data from across the enterprise to further the overall FM mission.

Time Well Spent

Duties include:

  • Developing and implementing solutions to financial data management challenges using advanced Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), Structured Query Language (SQL), SQL Server, Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel technologies.
  • Leading research and stakeholder interviews to document and understand requirements (data inputs and outputs), business processes, and existing data challenges with experience in developing and implementing process improvements.
  • Performing in-depth analysis to understand the links between business processes, data inputs, information requirements (outputs), and potential solutions.
  • Coordinating and participating in system engineering and technical exchange meetings to support quick resolution of architectural, design, system interoperability and policy issues.
  • Coordinating and participating in milestone events to include requirement reviews, design reviews, and program management reviews.
  • After operational needs for enhancements or system changes are assessed, define and develop technical requirements and specifications for development and test.
  • Leverage ITIL / ITSM to develop strategies and frameworks for NGA FM specific implementation
  • Support financial management processes, software, applications, tools, and systems with a vision toward process improvement.
  • Utilize agile methodologies to support a technology-focused, customer service organization.
  • Support organization’s performance management, metrics and measures.

Qualified Candidate


  • Bachelor’s degree in a business related field such as Business, Finance, Accounting, or Economics; or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated specialized experience in identifying system options and/or business process recommendations to improve business processes through coordinating with many stakeholder groups.
  • Demonstrated specialized experience working in DevOps environment

Exceptional Candidate


  • MS, or MBA.
  • Demonstrated specialized experience developing and implementing automated solutions to financial challenges using VBA, SQL, SQL Server, Microsoft Access, and/or Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrated specialized experience with ITIL and Agile Methodologies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of system software development activities to include requirements definition, process mapping, configuration management, testing, and user support.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in financial programming, planning, budgeting, execution and/or accounting.
  • Demonstrated specialized experience with NGA’s business processes and key financial data, reports, and information.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of internal controls methodologies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal financial management execution policies and business processes in the Intelligence Community and DoD, the United States Standard General Ledger (USSGL) and financial reporting requirements.
